A suspected drunk driver in a pick-up struck four people early on Memorial Day in Bellingham, WA. One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Dustin F. Brown, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault.
According to KOMO News, Brown's truck was initially parked in the 1200 block of North State Street, a southbound-only one-way street. When Brown started his truck, he accelerated aggressively and pulled out into traffic, immediately losing control of his vehicle. Brown sped through a business parking lot, breaking off chain barriers. and out into E. Chestnut Street, striking and killing a pedestrian. Brown then ran into an SUV with several passengers, shoving the SUV into a parked vehicle from the impact force. Luckily the SUV passengers were uninjured.
Brown's truck slammed into two more parked veicles from here and then came to a rest after smashing into a barrier fence. At this point, Brown was apprehended by citizens that pulled him from his vehicle and detained him until officers arrived.
Tragedies like this can constitute a wrongful death suit for a surviving spouse or children. It is always a good idea to contact an attorney if you believe you have suffered as a result of the negligence of a drunk driver.
