Our Bellevue, Washington client was riding his bike home from work in a bike lane in the Houghton neighborhood of Kirkland when a car made a left hand turn in front of him causing a bad Kirkland, Washington bicycle accident. The car turned between a lane of traffic that was stopped for a traffic signal ahead. Unfortunately, the car failed to see our client riding down the road in the bike lane. Our client had no time to stop or swerve to avoid the car. The car hit our client as he passed in front of the car. He was thrown off his bike and slammed into the pavement suffering serious injury.
Our client's serious injuries included five broken ribs, four fracture vertebrae in his low back, a small puncture of a lung, and small laceration to his liver. He spent several days in the hospital luckily the injuries were not severe enough to require surgery. There was little the doctors could do to actively treat the injuries. Our client just had to suffer through the many months of pain until the rib and spine fractures healed. Luckily for our client he was for the most part back to normal six months after the bicycle accident.
The car failed to yield to our client's right of way and was 100% at fault for causing the Kirkland bicycle accident. The medical expense amounted to a little over $19,000. We were able negotiate a settlement of over $94,000 for our client.
