Our Kirkland, Washington client was riding his bike to work on sidewalk in the Juanita neighborhood when a car emerged from a hidden driveway and drove onto the sidewalk in front of our client without stopping. Client had no time to stop or avoid hitting the car. Our client hit the front fender of the car and was thrown over his bike's handlebars landing in the street suffering a separated shoulder and bruised hip.
The car failed to stop and look for pedestrians or bicycles before crossing the sidewalk with his car. In King County, Washington it is legal to ride bicycles on sidewalks and cars must yield right of way to such bicycles. Our client attempted to swerve and miss the car but he was unsuccessful. We were able negotiate a settlement of $50,000 for our client.
