A King County Jury in the case of Cox v. Keg Restaurants compensated a Seattle man over 1.7 million dollars against Keg Restaurants for injuries suffered as a result of beating he received from drunk customer to whom the restaurant served 10 drinks in two and half hours.
Patrick Cox was dancing at a local Keg restaurant on a Friday evening. A drunken customer in the bar of the restaurant without provocation assaulted and badly beat Mr. Cox. He suffered severe head injuries including brain damage. An aggressive investigation helped prove the restaurant over served the drunk customer.
As a result of suffering a brain injury, Mr. Cox had problems with this his cognitive function and short-term memory. After a contentious trial the jury found Keg Restaurants negligent for over service of the drunken patron. After an unsuccessful appeal by Keg Restaurants the final judgment was $2,450,000 million.
